Mount Fuji is an active volcano about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo. Commonly called “Fuji-san,” it’s Japans tallest peak at 3,776 meters. It is one of Japans 3 sacred mountains, and summit hikes amongst the Japanese are very popular. Owing to its unique shaped summit often depicted in many of Japans ancient and modern works of art it is well known worldwide and hence offers trekkers a popular and accessible challenge. On average to summit the mountain takes approximately 6 hours and the climber is assisted along the route by many mountain huts, but consideration must be given to the popularity of the mountain and often during peak season the mountain is extremely busy with walkers.
