Castell y Gwent translated in English to “Castle of the Wind” is a stunning and remarkable feature encountered on the broad westerly summit of Glyder Fach at a height of 972m. In certain light, especially in the winter months these randomly spiked stones protruding up to the heavens can be quite an eerie encounter for the lone walker.  They are one of the most photographed iconic mountain features along with its closely situated friend on the rocky outcrops known as the “Cantilever Stone”. A further point of interest is that “Castell y Gwynt” and the “Cantilever Stone” were used in Walt Disney’s 1981 movie Dragon Slayer as the entry to a Dragon’s lair.
